Charter av ny klubb, Ogre i Lettland

“Women's Rights Are Human Rights”, said Hillary Clinton in her famous speech in the UN 1995. And she continued: “What we are learning around the world is that if women are healthy and educated, their families will flourish. If women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, communities and nations will flourish,” according to Kiki Ann Mauritzson.

- It´s a great honor for me to be part of this unique event by gathering here inLatvia, celebrating the birth of the ZC of Ogre in our district, says Kiki Ann Mauritzson.

The Ogre Club

September 25, 2010 opened a new page in the ZI District 21, Area 06.

The autumn sun, shining warm and brightly welcomed the significant for the District event – the charter of the new Zonta club in Latvia, Zonta club of Ogre. The charter ceremony was combined with Area 06 meeting.

Early in the morning Latvian Zontians and guests from Sweden – ZI, D21 Governor Ruth Brunner (visiting Latvia for the first time), Leutenant Governor Liisa Sulin Elmqvist, Ex-Governor Ausma Pāvulāns and District 21 PR Coordinator Kiki Ann Mauritzson started for Ogre for the Area meeting. After the excursion around the city and „Katrīna” breakfast all Area meeting members were greeted by the Mayor of the Ogre City Mr. E. Bartkevičs (also a Rotary Club member).

Area 06 director Velta Raudzepa introduced Latvian Zontians with our Governor 2010-2012 Ruth Brunner and other guests.

Liason Kirsi Nickels, past governor Ausma Pavuans, governor Ruth Brunner and the Ogre president Regīna Skuja

Governor Ruth Brunner made two presentations, dedicated to the ZI District 21 aims, board members’ and clubs’ cooperation, etc. and the ZI Convention in San Antonio, paying special attention to Zonta International projects. Her professional presentations arosed great interest in Latvian Zontians.

After the lunch (tasty food from the Latvian kitchen) followed the second part of the Area meeting.

District PR Coordinator Kiki Ann Mauritzon presented her theme: Branding with PR – professionally convincing, full of good images, etc.

I personally think that all presentations were of great significance for Latvian Zontians better to understand our common aims and significance of cooperation.

Velta Raudzepa in its turn introduced Latvian Zontians with Zonta Club’s manual and made some training with Latvian Zonta clubs’ officers. Also cooperation projects between Latvian clubs were discussed.

After the official program was over, Ogre regional TV interwieved all us and District guests about ZI and its significance on the International and national level.

Then we followed to Riga for a charter festival, which took place at the Riga History and Navigation Museum. We were really honoured that the International Director, ZI Liason for D21 Kirsi Nickels (Finland) was present, gave her speach and encouradged the new Zonta club for their future projects.

After the official charter ceremony, led by Governor Ruth Brunner and Ex-Governor Ausma Pavulāns, Zonta club of Ogre received a lot of greetings and good wishes from Latvian Zonta clubs, Zonta clubs of Sweden and all Guests of Honour (e.g. Vice Mayor of the Riga City Council Ainārs Šlesers). (See the program).

I would like to Express my deepest thanks to the Zonta Club of Ogre and especially the President Regīna Skuja for all the efforts to make the Charter Festival unforgettable!!
